As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. robot vacuum cleaner best can be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
